Canada Student Visa: Guide To Apply For Canada Student VISA
By
A student visa for Canada is not an easy thing to obtain. It is only given to those students who have a genuine intention of studying in Canada and not to those who intend to live or work in the country. There are many steps that must be taken before the application process can even begin and there are also certain items you will need along the way, which we will go over in this article.
Steps Before Canada Student VISA Application Process
When you decide that you want to apply for a Canada Student Visa, you will need to submit the following:
- Proof of education. This can be in two different ways as well. If you have already completed your course in Canada, then all that you need to do is submit a photocopy of the original transcript with an official letter explaining the grade status (a diploma or degree) and an official letter explaining that your previous educational documents have been extended to a new identification card with no expiration date (this is also required for any new immigration applications).
If this is not the case, then you must submit your final academic transcript from your country of origin. If you have not yet graduated, then all that you need is to submit an official letter explaining that you have been accepted into a school in Canada and a letter from the school stating that it has accepted you as a student and stating the course(s) that will be taught.
- Proof of sufficient funds. This will be an official letter from the financial institution that you have a bank account in your home country and it must include the following information: your name, the exact amount of funds deposited into the account, the date of deposit, and an official seal. You will be required to give this document before you can receive any confirmation of your application.
- Proof of health insurance. If you are applying for a study permit to attend university, then your school’s insurance is enough to allow you to apply for a student visa. However, if you are applying for any other type of school (post-graduate work), then you must show proof that you have health insurance in Canada.
This can be delivered in several different ways, from showing an insurance policy document from a company that is licensed to do business in your country to showing a letter from the Canadian embassy or consulate explaining that you have health insurance.
- Proof of language proficiency test or official language assessment test results. You will need to show proof that you meet the minimum French or English language proficiency level. This is usually done through the results of an official language assessment test taken in your home country, although there are other acceptable types of tests as well.
- Passport and photocopy of visa page. If you have a passport, then there is no need for you to apply again for an eTA, but if you do not have a passport and have already used it to enter Canada, then you should apply again with a new passport and present both your visa page and the photocopy of your previous visa page to speed up the process.
- Your application fee. This will be C$150 per person and must be paid in cash when delivering your documents to the government office. If you are applying for an eTA, then the fee is C$100 per person and must be paid when applying for a study permit. If you already have received a study permit and your visa was issued at a later date, then there will be no additional fee for obtaining an eTA, just the C$150 application fee which must be paid again if you want to apply for a new visa as well.
How to Apply For Canada Student VISA
If you have all of your required documents, then you can apply for a Canada Student Visa using your passport. Once you have completed the application process successfully, you will receive a letter that must be photocopied and retained. This is your confirmation that you have been issued an eTA and so will be able to travel to Canada with it. You can then submit additional documents after your study permit has been issued.
Steps To Apply For Student Visa in Canada
If you plan on applying for a student visa from outside of Canada in order to study in the country, then there are certain steps that must be taken before applying for this type of visa.
- If you have not yet met your language proficiency requirements, then you should enroll in a course of study and then wait until you have followed through with the entire process before continuing.
- If you do not have a valid eTA immigration status, then you must apply for one by using the C$100 immigration fee or the free immigration fee if it is for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization).
- If you do not have a valid visa status, then you will need to apply for one by using the C$150 visa fee.
- If you do not have proof of funds that are sufficient to cover the cost of your studies or work in Canada, then you will need to apply for a study permit by following the steps outlined above.
- If you are applying for a study permit and have been accepted in a licensed school in Canada, then you can apply for your student visa as well when applying for your work permit. This will also allow you to stay in the country longer while studying because of the two combined visa statuses.
Conclusion
As you can see, this type of visa is very easy to obtain because you only need to show that you have all of the documents in order to be able to apply for the visa and once it is approved, it will allow you to stay in Canada for as long as you like during the time period that is referenced on your visa. You will still need to be monitored by your school and check in with them periodically so that they can keep any additional information that may be required.
